TRAINING THINKING EXPLORING
On-One Ranger
The On-one Ranger is my first foray into the gravel world, this bike has lived up to everything I could have possibly expected. It deals with short sunday spins on the local green lanes as well as 200 mile epics. For £1700, you can’t ask for much more; carbon frame and forks, hydraulic disc brakes and a Sram Rival 1. I have done just over 3000km on this bike and it has done everything I have asked of it. The only things I am starting to notice the durability of some components are not particularly high with headset bearings becoming stiffer, wheel bearings loosening and general degradation of moving parts. Now this may not be 100% material issues however in comparison to my other bikes under the same servicing program I have seen a marked difference in the rate of performance loss. For anyone looking to buy a robust and cost effective starter gravel/ bike tourer I will wholeheartedly recommend this bike. From my time in cycling clubs and around cyclists, Planet X is sometimes looked down upon but I think this is misattributed as the stuff they produce is great quality and the price points they are able to deliver it at are far more accessible than other brands.

Giant TCR Adv 2
The TCR Advanced 2 was my first carbon road bike and I honestly believe it is one of the best frame geometries of any bike. A very sturdy bike that I have put through over 25000km in the past 7 years. This bike has handled bike daily training sessions, cycling holidays and being fully ladened with bike packing bags. I’ve messed around with 28mm tyres on it and innumerable wheel/ tyre combinations and its dealt with it perfectly. For a bike which by many peoples standards is a budget specification eg. rim brakes and the 105 groupset it is a high performance machine. A budget super bike and Giant model that has a long history with a bright future. (I may need to upgrade to the disc version soon).

Hoka One One Bondi 8
These were my first pair of proper running shoes and I believe I hit the nail on the head first time. For the stack height they are light, they are stable and supportive. If they are good enough for Russ Cook they are definitely ok for me. They hit the 750km of use and I didn’t replace them straight away which was a poor move on my behalf, they are back on my shopping list for sure.
